PAUSE Webinar – February 12th

Speaker: Dr. Georgina Sanchez
North Carolina State University
Title: Spatially interactive modeling of urban growth, flood hazards, and adaptive responses
Abstract: Understanding human mobility and shifts in development patterns in response to sea level rise and increased flooding is crucial for anticipating the need for policies and investments that protect lives, infrastructure, and the environment. Land change modeling offers an exciting opportunity to envision alternative growth trajectories and assess the trade-offs between competing socio-environmental needs. In this talk, we will showcase a framework that examines interactions between urban growth, increased flooding from climate change, and human adaptive responses to flood hazards. Through scenario-based modeling, we investigate various development paths and adaptive strategies, enabling communities to confront the growing challenges of sea level rise and flooding. Join us in discussing how we can shape a future that is not only transformative but also sustainable, adaptable, and resilient.
